Dr. Brent R. Rosen

Breast Augmentation Philadelphia & Doylestown PA

Breast Augmentation Philadelphia is one of the most requested cosmetic procedures available. Using saline or silicone filled breast implants, this procedure can enlarge your breasts and bring them into proportion with your body. Patients can obtain a more feminine body shape, a greater number of wardrobe options and improved self-confidence.

However, breast augmentation requires your careful consideration regarding the options available and your long-term goals.

Breast Augmentation: Choosing the Right Candidate

An ideal candidate is an educated patient who chooses breast augmentation based on her individual values and goals. Schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Rosen if you experience any of the following:

  • Dissatisfaction with breast size
  • Body disproportion due to small breast size
  • Gradual Loss of breast fullness
  • Breast asymmetry

Options in Breast Augmentation Philadelphia

Before surgery, Dr. Rosen can discuss with you the wide variety of available options in breast implants and surgical techniques. You may want to consider the following questions during your visit to our office:

Should I choose saline or silicone breast implants?

Although both implant types can provide natural and appealing results, there are differences to consider such as implant cost, surgical technique and characteristics.

What size breast implants should I choose?

The right size depends several factors. Consider your body proportions, your personal preferences and the amount of tissue that can adequately cover the breast implant.

What surgical technique or placement method will be used?

Breast implants can be placed through incisions in the underarm, navel, areola, or underneath the breast in what is called the “breast crease.” After the incisions are made, the breast implant is inserted above or beneath your pectoral muscle.

What other breast augmentation options need to be considered?

Specific details can be discussed such as the implant texture, implant profile, implant diameter, and implant shape. Some patients may also need to consider a breast lift during their surgery to improve breast position as well. Remember that Dr. Rosen can guide you through these decisions and make sure you are well informed before proceeding with breast augmentation.

The Procedure: How Breast Augmentation Surgery Works

Operating time is about 1-2 hours. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, so you will be asleep during surgery. Incisions are made to allow Dr. Rosen access to the breast tissue, where a pocket is created for the implant. The implant is placed above or below the muscle, centered below the nipple.

In some cases, an endoscopic technique may be appropriate. This method uses a small viewing instrument to see your underlying tissues, meaning incisions can be much smaller. When breast implants are placed through the underarm or the navel, the endoscopic technique is necessary.

After breast implant placement, the incisions are closed with sutures, adhesive and surgical tape.

What to Expect After Your Breast Augmentation: Recovery and Results

You will be sent home with a special bra designed to provide support during recovery. Total recovery time with breast augmentation is about 1-2 weeks, but you should be walking around in 24 hours. Sutures are removed in ten days. Dr. Rosen can prescribe a medication to manage pain during this time. After breast augmentation, regular examinations are recommended to ensure the integrity of your implants. While the implants do not come with an expiration date and may last many years, a future revision surgery may be necessary. Most surgeons agree that it is prudent for patients to plan on future breast surgeries.

Possible Complications of Breast Augmentation

All cosmetic surgery carries a risk of complications and side effects. With breast augmentation, early complications include but are not limited to changes in nipple sensation, hematoma, seroma and infection. Delayed complications include capsular contracture, breast implant rupture and visible implant wrinkling. These conditions typically require a revision procedure, which may be (at least partially) covered by the breast implant manufacturer’s warranty.
