Cheek Augmentation

Cheek augmentation involves the placement of a special implant to increase the projection of your cheeks. The implant may be an injectable filler or a piece of molded silicone rubber. The purpose is to restore youthful fullness to your cheeks and bring the cheekbones into proportion with the rest of your face.

Who can benefit from cheek augmentation?

Those who can benefit from this procedure will have a hollow or sunken appearance in their cheeks, caused by inadequate bone structure or aging. The face may appear flat and wrinkled before cheek augmentation.

How Cheek Augmentatation Works

Cheek augmentation with a facial implant can be performed during a facelift, blepharoplasty or related procedure. When performed alone, it may take only 45 minutes under general anesthesia (local anesthesia is an option for some patients).

The incision is made inside the upper lip or inside the lower eyelid. A pocket is formed and the implant is inserted. To secure the implant above your cheekbone, it may be fastened with screws or sutures. All cheek augmentation procedures produce results that are immediately visible. While it may take some time for swelling to subside, the results of cheek augmentation last for many years. Possible side effects include but are not limited to discomfort, swelling and infection around the implant.
