Mentoplasty, or chin surgery is intended to reshape the chin with a special facial implant or alteration of the bone structure. Dr. Rosen may recommend chin surgery Philadelphia along with or instead of rhinoplasty, in order to achieve optimal proportion of your facial features.
What is a Chin Implant?
During chin surgery, the placement of a chin implant can require just 30 minutes to an hour. Dr Rosen selects the proper size and shape implant to enhance your facial proportions and inserts it into a pocket over the front of the jawbone. A small incision to create the pocket and insert the implant is placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area.
Your chin will be taped after surgery to minimize swelling and discomfort. Sutures in the skin will be removed in about 1 week. If the incision is placed within the mouth, the sutures will dissolve on their own.
What to Expect During Recovery from Chin Surgery
You will probably experience some discomfort and swelling in the chin and lower face for several days. It is normal to experience some temporary difficulty speaking immediately after chin surgery. Bruising may also be visible around your chin and neck. Dr. Rosen will give you special instructions about dental hygiene, eating and when you can resume normal activities.
