Dr. Brent R. Rosen

Fat Transfer/Injection

Fat grafting is a method of soft tissue augmentation, often used for purposes similar to those of a dermal filler. The doctor harvests a small amount of fat with liposuction and uses it to augment a specific area of your face.

Indications for Autologous Fat Grafting

Fat grafting has been used for a wide variety of cosmetic purposes. Dr. Rosen may recommend fat grafting for correction of facial wrinkles, folds or contour irregularities – including the following:
  • Depressed scars
  • Thin or flat lips
  • Hollow or gaunt areas of the face
  • Laugh Lines or Marionette lines
  • Contouring of the jaw, cheeks or temples

The Procedure: How Fat Grafting Works

Fat grafting first requires liposuction to harvest fat. This can be done on the tummy, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere. Before injection, the fat is purified and prepared. Dr. Rosen then injects the fat into areas specified for soft tissue augmentation. Because grafted fat has a tendency to get reabsorbed by the body, multiple treatments may be necessary.

After Fat Grafting: Recovery and Results

You may experience some swelling, bruising and redness in the injection site as well as the area treated with liposuction. Results of fat grafting vary; you may see results lasting about 6 months or longer than 1 year.
