Your Neck Liposuction

While it’s no secret that diet and exercise are the keys to enjoying a trim and healthy body, it’s also true that sometimes we encounter pockets of stubborn fat that won’t go away. Liposuction on the neck and chin area can remove fat below the chin and restore an appealing contour to the lower face. Because losing neck fat through diet and exercise is difficult, this procedure is very rewarding for many patients, enhancing the neck contour with no visible scars. If this sounds like the right procedure for you, reach out and set up your consultation to learn more about neck liposuction today!

Is Neck Liposuction Right for Me?

If you have persistent fat deposits on the neck that detract from the youthful angularity of your lower face, and you’re in Bucks County, Doylestown, or the nearby areas, you’re likely a great candidate for liposuction.

Consider neck liposuction if you have a double chin, neck bands, fat in the jowl area, or poor jaw definition.

Patients should have adequate skin tone and elasticity. This procedure does not address loose skin on the neck or loss of tissue volume.

How Liposuction is Performed on the Neck

Before surgery, we’ll take photos of your treatment area, which is then marked for surgery. Your face and neck will be thoroughly cleansed, and local anesthesia will be administered before small incisions are placed on each side of the jaw, or centrally below the chin. The fat is saturated with the tumescent solution, preparing it for removal.

The fat situated just below your skin and above your neck muscle (the platysma) will be removed with suction. This area contains no major blood vessels or nerves, so it can be removed safely with a small tube called a cannula that vacuums the fat from the area. The neck, lower chin, and jaw may all be treated.

What’s My Recovery Like After Neck Liposuction?

Thankfully, your recovery time after neck liposuction will be relatively short. For the first 24 hours, your neck area will be wrapped in gauze and tape, and you can expect some swelling for about three to five days after surgery. We’ll give you a special elastic chin strap, to control swelling and promote skin contraction, which you’ll wear for about three days or until Dr. Rosen clears you to remove it.

You may want to plan on wearing high-necked clothing or scarves during your recovery period...but once your healing process is complete, you’ll enjoy a smooth and well-defined neckline, with a clearly marked transition from your neck to your face.

Are There Possible Complications with Neck Liposuction?

While all cosmetic surgery procedures carry a risk of complications, you’re effectively avoiding a significant amount of risk by going with a highly-experienced and board-certified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Rosen. With neck liposuction, side effects may include soreness, bruising and temporary difficulty speaking. Complications may include but are not limited to infection, irregular skin contour due to overcorrection, poor healing, formation of fat clots or blood clots, fluid loss, tissue trauma, or adverse reaction to anesthesia.
