Before & After

Your Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the nose, bringing it into proportion with other facial features. In some cases, rhinoplasty may be able to improve breathing problems. This can be a life-changing procedure for the right patient. However, the ideal nose varies for each person, so a skilled surgeon is required to provide gratifying results.

Rosen Cosmetic Surgery

Is Rhinoplasty the Right Choice for Me?

During your consultation, Dr. Rosen will get to know your cosmetic goals and help you decide whether or not this is the right procedure for you. In most cases, rhinoplasty is sought by patients interested in boosting their self-confidence and improving their sense of facial harmony by changing their nose's size or shape for a more proportionate and symmetrical look.

A wide variety of aesthetic changes can be made to the nose with rhinoplasty. If your nose appears too long, large, crooked, wide, narrow, or bumpy, rhinoplasty may be an appropriate solution.

How Rhinoplasty Enhances Nasal Proportion

Before your procedure, you’ll meet with Dr. Rosen, as part of your pre-operative consultation, to discuss your aesthetic ideals as they relate to your nose. Together you may study photos and analyze angles of the nose to determine the intended result. The typical operation takes between one and three hours, under local anesthesia, with intravenous sedation. Dr. Rosen may choose to perform your rhinoplasty as a closed or open operation.

During a “closed” rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Rosen will make his incisions inside the nose. With an “open” rhinoplasty procedure, the skin of your nose will be lifted to allow a clear view of all nasal structures. Bone and cartilage will be reshaped according to your specific aesthetic goals. This may involve reducing, augmenting, or refining the shape of your nose. Some cases may require a tissue graft or even fracture of the bone.  Absorbable sutures will be placed after the nose is reshaped, along with nasal packing and a special splint. Dr. Rosen will walk you through everything you need to know about your procedure, answering any questions you might have.

After Rhinoplasty: What to Expect During Your Recovery

Recovery time varies from patient to patient, with most returning to their routine a week or two. Pain medications will help you manage discomfort during the first week, after which the nasal packing (if used) will be removed.

It will take a bit of time for the swelling from your rhinoplasty procedure to fully subside, so you might not be able to see your full results right away. For some, it can take as long as five to six months, but you’ll see gradual improvements.

Adjusting to your new nose is not always easy, and older patients may find it especially difficult. For at least six weeks, you’ll need to avoid activities that may potentially damage the nose. Contact sports are not recommended!

Are There Any Possible Rhinoplasty Complications?

Cosmetic surgery procedures all carry a risk of complications, which you can effectively minimize by going with a highly experienced surgeon like Dr. Rosen. With rhinoplasty, possible adverse events may include nasal obstruction, unsatisfactory results, bleeding, and sinus infection. Permanent numbness and difficulty breathing are also possible, however, these typically resolve during the healing process.

Rhinoplasty Alternatives

If rhinoplasty is not an ideal solution for you, Dr. Rosen may recommend an alternative procedure. To improve breathing in the nose, a procedure called septoplasty may be recommended.

For non-surgical nasal contouring, a dermal filler injection may be the right choice. If your facial features are unbalanced and your nose appears prominent, a chin implant may bring your facial features into proportion.
